For the second straight year the Winnipeg Jets made no sinifigant moves at the NHL trade deadline. There were reports that Devin Setoguchi may back headed back to San Jose, along with Chris Thorburn, and the reports that Setoguchi left practice after yesterdays optional skate at the MTS Iceplex just added fuel to that rumor. It turns out that Setoguchi wasn't traded, nor was anyone else wearing a Jets jersey, but that Seto simply chose not to speak to reporters.
Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff decided to go with the group he has now. That's not to say other teams were not interested in the current Jets roster, as there was more than interest in Mark Stuart as perhaps a rental player for a couple of contenders this season. Othjer names thrown around as trade bait were Olli Jokinen, Evander Kane and Dustin Byfuglien.
But Cheveldayoff decided not to interupt the current cohesivness that's put the Jets into a chase for a wild card spot in the NHL's Western conference, despite the injury to rookie center Mark Scheifele; who will be out for at least six to eight weeks.

Jets Go Down to Islanders in OT; Scheifele Out for Season with MCL Tear
As the Winnipeg Jets were trying to figure out the frustrating New York Islanders, ultimately losing to the visitors 3-2 in overtime, they were also watching one of their star rookies Mark Scheifele go down with an MCl injury after a cheap knee-on-knee hit from the Isles Calvin deHaan.
The point stolen from the Islanders (and it was stolen as the Isles controlled most of the play as the Jets were lucky to tie it up late in the third) keeps the Jets in the hunt for the final wild card spot in the Western conference with 67 points, falling one point behind the Dallas Stars. The Jets are tied with the Phoenix Coyotes and are one point ahead of the falling Vancouver Canucks who stand at 66 points.
The Jets also announce they have signed defenseman Mark Stuart to a four-year extension.

Jets Down Predators
The Winnipeg Jets have started another winning streak, albeit just two games since the Olympic break, by defeating division rivals, the Nashville Predators 3-1 this afternoon at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Ondrej Pavelec earned the Jets players player-of-the-game award by donning the "pilots helmet" for the second consecutive game as he made 39 saves in a game where the Jets were outplayed and thoroughly out shot 40-20. If you include shots blocked by the Jets and shots that missed the net entirely, the Predators threw over 70 pucks Pavelec's way. He deserved all three stars of this game actually. The defense in front of him has improved, thus so do his numbers. Those improved numbers should cool off the fair-weather fans, as any fan with any knowledge as much as the average fan purports to do...if you get me.
He may not have won over his detractors who want him traded, bought out or *ahem* traded "to the minors," however that works.
But as it stands, he remains the Jets number one netminder and his confidence level has increased tremendously since Paul Maurice has taken over head coaching duties. Having a vastly improved defensive core doesn't hurt either. Maurice commented on people's perception of Pavelec's play overall.
With their 30th win of the season, the Jets are now tied with the Dallas Stars and Vancouver Canucks with 66 points and may now lay claim (at least temporarily) to the second wild card spot and the eighth seed in the Western conference.

Jets Beat Coyotes; First Win After Olympic Break
In their first game back since the Olympic break, the Winnipeg Jets got back in the win column to continue their mostly winning ways with coach Paul Maurice, now 10-3-1, the Jets defeated the visiting Phoenix Coyotes 3-2 in a shootout.
The game shouldn't went that far as the Jets out-played the Yotes a majority of the time. A clearly chincy call for hooking (and I mean phantom penalty in every sense of the word) on Mark Stuart. The Coyotes capitalized on the ensuing power-play and tied the game at two. Overtime solved nothing and Olli Jokinen has a shootout winner to go along with his recent Olympic bronze medal. All Jets Healthy; Ready for Season Stretch Run
With the Winnipeg Jets sick bay emptied out, except for Grant Clitsome, who has a season-ending back injury; the return of Evander Kane, Matt Halischuck and Jim Slater (who will undoubtedly help with the Jets dismal face-off percentage) now puts the Jets back at full roster for the first time since October.

Jets Olympians Return; Jokinen Brings Back Bronze
The Olympics are over, Canada won gold and Olli Jokinen is the only Jets to have an Olympic medal around his neck. Not the championship from Sochi and not second-place silver, but the bronze medal that symbolizes not only the victory over the Blake Wheeler and the United States, but the game before that eliminated the host Russians in the semi-finals.
Wheeler, for his part is more than a little disappointed in the Americans fourth-place finish, but says it won't ruin his playoff push with the Jets.

Kane Returns to Line-Up
Evander Kane is ready and willing. His injured hand that ballooned up "to the size of a baseball," just before the Olympic break is apparently healed and Kane has received clearance to play. Coach Paul Maurice said Kane will be in the line-up Thursday when the Jets host the Phoenix Coyotes at the MTS Centre.

Jets Outdoor Practice
Perhaps in preparation for the 2016 Heritage Classic (which, by the
way, I believe will pit the Jets-wearing a jersey to honor the original
Jets, plus the Falcons, Monarchs and Victorias-

Montreal, given the history between the two hockey cities dating back
to the late 1800s and the infancy of Stanley Cup play) the Winnipeg Jets held an open outdoor practice on the Red River at the Forks
in front of hundreds of people that braved the frigid temperatures to
watch the Jets run drills, interact and even scrimmage with a local
pee-wee team.

Jets Get Back to Work
The Winnipeg Jets got back to business as they held their first practice after the Olympic break, minus their four Olympians. Forwards Micheal Frolic of the Czech Republic, along with his teammate, goaltender Ondrej Pavelec, are on their way back to Winnipeg after their respective teams were defeated in the Olympic men's semi-final. The USA's Blake Wheeler and Finland's Olli Jokinen will stay behind in Sochi, Russia just a little while longer, as their two teams will play for the bronze medal, as they were defeated by Canada and Sweden, who will battle for the gold medal on Sunday morning.

Jets Go 2-1-1 on Road Trip After Loss to St. Louis
In their last game before the Olympic break, the Winnipeg Jets were trying to avoid their first consecutive loss under head coach Paul Maurice since he took over January 12 against the host, St. Louis Blues won 4-2 in a shootout. They didn't. Although the Jets came back in the third period and tied the game at three (one of three comebacks) forcing overtime that solved nothing, they were not able to put any further pucks past St. Louis goaltender Brian Elliot in the shootout.
Jets forward Mark Scheifele scored twice and was close at various times at becoming the first Jet to score a hat trick since the team's relocation from Atlanta in 2011. Dustin Byfuglien scored the equalizer for the Jets with 6:57 remaining in the third.
The Jets went 0-3 in the shootout, while the Blues scored twice from goals by T.J. Oshie and Vladimir Tarasenko.
The Jets are now 9-3 under Maurice.

Ovechkin, Caps Down Jets in DC
Alexander Ovechkin scored after what seemed to be a goaltender interference when Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec was pushed into his net after a scramble in front of the Jets net. The goal counted and the Capital added an insurance goal to defeat the Jets 4-2.

Thorburn Scores Late Winner, Jets Down Hurricanes 2-1
With only his second goal of the season, his 95th point of his career, Chris Thorburn finished off a great play by Jacob Trouba as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 tonight with just 1:03 remaining in regulation.
Jets captain Andrew Ladd scored his 13th to open up the scoring before Carolina's Riley Nash tied it up at 2:42 of the third period before Trouba took one behind the net for a wraparound attempt before Thorburn finished it off.
The Jets are now 11-2 under head coach Paul Maurice, back to .500 on the road at 14-14-1, are three games above .500 for the season for the first time this season at 28-25-5. But most important, the Jets are now only two points out of a playoff spot, the second wild card, currently held by the Vancouver Canucks. This win puts the Jets on another three-game win streak.

Jets Finally Take One in Montreal
Believe it or not, after 19 years a Winnipeg-based team has finally won an NHL game in Montreal.
The Jets 2.0 defeated the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 at the Bell Centre this afternoon. Something the original Winnipeg Jets hadn't done since 1995. The Jets controlled most of the play throughout the game as they took advantage of struggling Habs club.
This win puts the Jets just six points out of the second wild card spot and the eighth seed in the Western conference. It also ties them with both Dallas and Nashville with 59 points in the Central division.

Jets Outlast Canucks
Stay calm. Play your game. Win.
That's all it is really. The Winnipeg Jets showed why they've been successful of late-in spite of more preventable giveaways. They had an early lead but lost it. But they stayed together, earned a goal and defeated the Vancouver Canucks at the MTS Centre last night 4-3 to keep the little Jets that could rolling along. The Jets gave up 2-0 and 3-2 leads, but closed the game out even under some pretty heavy-and desperate pressure from the Canucks at the end of the final frame.
Devin Setoguchi silenced some of his critics with a two-goal performance, including the winner with 2:56 remaining in the third period.
Mark Scheifele and Jacob Trouba continue to perform as Scheifele was all over the ice and in the Canucks faces earning an assist on Setoguchi's first tally and Trouba collected another point as he helped with Setoguchi's winner.

Preds Edge Jets
Make Paul Maurice's record since taking over as the head coach of the Winnipeg Jets now 6-2, as the Jets fell to the Nashville Predators tonight 4-3 at the MTS Centre. Another loss to a Central division rival doesn't help the Jets in their quest for a already arduous playoff push. Especially a team that was only one point behind the Jets prior to tonight's game.

Jets Continue Winning; Beat Blackhawks 3-1 in Chicago
In a building you're not supposed to win in against a team you're not supposed to beat, the Winnipeg Jets went 5-1 under coach Paul Maurice, defeating the mighty Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 at the United Center Sunday night. Blake Wheeler scored twice (including an empty-netter) and Andrew Ladd added what proved to be the winner late in the third, the 150th of his career. Evander Kane played in his 500th NHL game.
Al Montoya got the start and shone brilliantly, keeping the Jets in the game after the first two periods when the Blackhawks dominated the play. He made 34 saves.

Sharks Nip Jets
It wasn't a one-bite meal, it wasn't a bloody massacre, but the San Jose Sharks continued their own winning streak to five as well as halting the Winnipeg Jets winning streak at four with a 1-0 shutout in San Jose last night.
The Jets now head home for a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday before heading back out on the road against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday at the United Center.

Jets Top Ducks at the Pond
The Jets played great. Ondrej Pavelec was insane, making 40 saves on the night and the Winnipeg Jets pulled off what no other team has been able to do this season thus far: defeat the Anaheim Ducks at home in regulation play. The Jets topped the Ducks 3-2 in the 60 minute allotted time span. Teemu Selanne was on the Ducks roster, but the man Winnipeg hockey fans have dubbed, "forever a Jet," was kept off the scoreboard by the Jets near-stifling defense.
The win gave new head coach Paul Maurice his fourth consecutive win and a record of 4-0 as the Jets bench-boss since he took over from Claude Noel on Jan. 12.

Jets to Move Farm Club
True North Sports & entertainment CEO Mark Chipman held a press conference in Anaheim, California prior to the game between the Winnipeg Jets and Anaheim Ducks last night and revealed the Winnipeg Jets are exploring moving their AHL minor-league affiliate St. John's Ice Caps closer to home. Possibly to Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Jets Have Fun at Public Practice
It's that time of year again. The Winnipeg Jets held their annual open-to-the-public practice at the MTS Centre Sunday afternoon before they embark on a two-game road trip into Anaheim and San Jose, California to do battle with the Ducks and Sharks respectively.
But for the first time in a long while, the Jets were clearly having fun. Erasing a five-game losing streak and starting a three-game win streak will do that to your mood, not to mention your confidence.
The smiles were on every Jets' face all afternoon. The capacity crowd clearly appreciated the festivities as well and fun was had by all.

Jets Pull One Out Over Oilers
Dustin Byfuglien was of the hook as he was a threat to score on multiple occasions. However, he went pointless for just the second time in the last six games in this, Byfuglien's 500th NHL game.
The Jets now head off on their toughest road trip of the season thus far as they face the Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks; two teams that have a combined two regulation losses all season. Both of them by the Sharks. Anaheim is undefeated through 60 regulation minutes on home ice. The Jets then come home for a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, before heading back on the road against the Central division-leading Chicago Blackhawks.
Although short, this will be one tough road trip.
Clitsome Out for Season
Winnipeg Jets defenceman Grant Clitsome has had season-ending back surgery and will be on the injured reserve list for the duration of the 2013-2014 campaign.

Jets Douse Flames
The Winnipeg Jets made it two in a row for new head coach Paul Maurice as they dominated the struggling Calgary Flames 5-2 at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
The continued the energy they demonstrated in the win over Phoenix on Monday as the Jets owned a 4-0 advantage after two periods. The Flames were allowed to pot a couple of goals when the Jets let up in the third period, including Mark Giordano scoring just 40 seconds into the third frame, but Jacob Trouba answered back with a nice move after a pass from Oli Jokinen and he beat Reto Berra glove-side to regain the four-goal lead.
Ondrej Pavelec was brilliant in the first two periods when the Flames were able to muster some dangerous-looking scoring chances and the game could have been closer, sooner without him. Dustin Byfuglien and Mark Scheifele continued their point streaks, along with Jokinen and Bryan Little with goals by all and assists by Little, Andrew Ladd and Byfuglien. Blake Wheeler and Chris Thorburn, especially, also shined for the Jets. The 2-point night was all the rage for the Jets against their old-time rivals from Alberta.
The Jets now face three teams that have lost a combined five games in regulation. Kane Placed on IR
The Winnipeg Jets have placed forward Evander Kane on injured reserve as his hand injury is not healing as quick as anticipated. The Jets have called up Carl Klingberg from the AHL's St. John's IceCaps.

Jets Snap Five-Game Losing Streak with Route Over Yotes
The debut of head coach Paul Maurice was a winning one as the Winnipeg Jets snapped a five-game losing skid with a 5-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes at the MTS Centre tonight.
Eric O'Dell opened the scoring with his second NHL goal and Blake Wheeler scored his 17th of the season to make it 3-1 and the Jets never looked back. The Jets went only 1-7 on the power-play, but the puck movement was impressive and the margin of victory could have and should have been much wider. The route of the former Jets has taken Jets 2.0 out of their slump and their confidence could be seen on their faces. It's only one victory after a tumultuous slide, but things might be starting to improve. The Jets were able to register 38 shots on Coyotes goalie Mike Smith and kept him on the edge of his crease all night. All in all, not a good night for the Olympic-bound goalie.
