NHL, Players' Union to Battle Over Realignment

When the NHL Player's Association rejected a re-alignment plan that both the NHL owners and a heavy majority of fans embraced, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said he would do what he could to have the players and owners come to an agreement. In Boca Raton, Florida this week where the NHL Board of Governors are meeting to discuss the re-alignment, as well as rule changes, Bettman is doing his best to persuade the NHLPA.

As the Winnipeg Free Press's Gary Lawless says in his column today, the Jets "have been caged in a geographic and competitive disadvantage will soon face the full scrutiny of NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. His goal is to end it."
